The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble

A week ago i saw these 8 fellows playing at times square and thought the music and the energy was indcredible. I bought one of their cd's and listened to for a day before writing the band a mail saying how much i enjoyed the music and that i had taken some pictures of them that day in Manhattan and if i could take a few more some time. they wrote me back and said that they needed a photographer for their friday night concert at Rose in Brooklyn. I arrived around 10.30pm and was taken to the band. We talked a little about what kind of pictures they would like before they went on stage. The Place was packed with people, but luckely i got up in the front to shoot some pictures wich in didnt stop doing all night. Here is a couple from that night.

A day on the water

This friday i took a trip around the island of Manhattan on a little ferry/boat. It was lovely weather and the tour guide was a nice and funny fellow. It lasted about three hours from 10.30am to 1.30pm. At one point the boat went away from its close following of the Manhattan coast line wich meant it passed right by Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty. It was quite an experience to see two such landmarks up close and i finally got to see some american history.

The reason i choose to publish this entry with such an over edited picture is that it was foggy that friday and all of my pictures looks very dull and lags contrast. So i thought this would make a cool substitute.

Coney Island

Back again after the usual three day cyberspace blackout. Friday i spent my day in Coney Island. an old amusement area with i very nice beach. I read in the paper that a big developer was about to tear the place down and build a new big amusement park instaed of the old ones. It is now the last season the old rides are open and that was my excuse (not that i needed one) to go there.
The beach is great. a lot of working class people come to the beach as a part of a one day trip. all the rich people go out to Long Beach and the Hamptons. It was through the eye of a local homeless guy a was introduced to the place. He told me about how the different ethnicities has their certian areas of the boardwalk and the beach. He was a nice guy and promissed to show me more of New York.

A day in the sun

So i have returned to the wonders of the internet. its terrible what three days without it can do to you.
Well here are two shots from yesterday (sunday). I made my way to the B & H store to spend my time looking at cameras and electronics i could'nt afford, but hey, when in Rome... Yes i bought my self a lens. A used 55-200 mm nikon. Then i had to walk the streets with it. the picture in color is taken with the new piece of equipment on Broadway, when i was walking uptown after a brief visit to Greenwich Village.
The top picture is from my everyday juncture at Times Square station. these signs are put out and collected again by some guys who are just sitting and watching people walk by. They have this little table with christian ornaments. I still havent figured out the exact purpose of their presence in the subway, but i could imagine it had something to do with converting people into christians. Come to think of it, i might just walk up and ask them, so stay tuned for more on the subway subject.

Mother nature update

When i first got on the plane to new york, i could'nt help feeling a bit sorry, that i were to live in queens and not manhattan or especially Brooklyn. This magical place, which has been the birth place of many writers an musicians. The big city life in a much more relaxed packedge. But when i yesterday turned on fox news and saw the pictures of wrecked houses and fallen trees, followed by the anchor man talking about a two tornados having hit brooklyn, i suddenly found it quite apealing to sleep on a crummy couch in queens.

Here's a couple of links with pics

Morning lock down

Well i have skipped a day and will probably do it again. The truth is that i do not have the time or the energy the walk around and shoot pictures after a day at work. Here is one more picture from sunday.
This morning New York was in a complete lock down because of a rain storm last night. Most of the manhattan subways were flodded. Which meant i had to walk from times square to work on 25th street, on what fox news this morning called " the probably hottest day in the year". Now im just sitting at work sweatting and waiting for poeple to fight the morning commute.

Relaxing in Central park

Besides Times Sqaure i visited Central Park on sunday. It was quite nice to just sit on a bench by the lake. but the highlight of the day was when three guys from the bronx invited (shoutet for) people to watch street performance/comedy and what a show!

First day in New York City

My fist day started out with a train ride to times square. I walked around with my camera and just pointed it at everything. which meant that i got home with a memory card full of rubbish.
This is one of the better shots.

I hope to be able to update this blog daily with a lot og photos.
I might just upload a couple more from sunday.
